Did you know?

Did you know is the underlying question for the CommUNITY in Action newsletter. For example, Did you know that among American cities 20,000 and larger, Milledgeville ranks second in the nation for job losses over the past five years, 30.1%? This story was reported by the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric.

We want to share good news and troubling news. We desire to create dialogue around opportunities to collaborate. GCSU students, faculty and staff can benefit from community knowledge that many of our readers have to share. On the other hand, a significant number of university courses lend themselves to students becoming engaged in "hands-on" learning and serving for the purpose of working with citizens to improve the quality of life in Baldwin County.

We welcome stories of approximately 300 words and photos are worth 1,000 words! We are open to innovative ideas and responsible appeals for cooperative projects.

CommUNITY in Action Newsletter

The CommUNITY in Action newsletter serves as a communication catalyst with the hope that Milledgeville and Baldwin County citizens and organizations together with Georgia College & State University students, faculty, and staff will value the opportunity to deliberate issues of mutual concern. The newsletter is one part of a larger GCSU civic agency initiative designed to foster substantive university-community partnerships. The local "knowledge community" includes people with an appreciation for the history, current issues, and quality of life in central Georgia as well as people with academic credentials who prepare university students for careers in many disciplines and professional fields. Learning takes place in and outside the classroom. The wider community can serve as a teaching/learning environment resulting in mutually beneficial outcomes for all those involved. Readers are welcome to contribute ideas and material for publication. As well, please offer ideas for face-to-face discussions that address important community issues.
