Safe Hang-out for Teens
This group's project involved opening lines of communication between the students and important members of the Milledgeville community to advocate for a safe and affordable place for teenagers to hang out. The students became aware of an old school in the community that had been designated as a community center but had not been adequately renovated and opened for community use. The group met with a community leader to better understand how they could influence decision making about the future of the community and subsequently wrote letters to city and county government officials. The group also produced a video to illustrate their concerns. The group learned the value of advocacy as a public skill.
