Internships

A variety of internships offering practical experience in history-related work are available through the department, including such opportunities as work at historical societies and preservation sites. 

We have had on-campus internships at the Library’s Special collections and at the Old Governor’s Mansion.  Off-campus sites have included Milledgeville’s  Old Capital Museum, the Museum of Aviation at Warner Robins Air Force Base, the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in Macon, the Augusta Museum of History, the Coastal Georgia Historical Society, the Atlanta History Center, the Ocmulgee Mounds center in Macon, Central State Hospital in Milledgeville,  Lockerly Arboretum in Milledgeville, Magnolia Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama, Etowah Valley Historical Society, the Historic Macon Foundation, the Watson-Brown Foundation in Thompson, Georgia, and the Milledgeville Baldwin County Convention and Visitor Bureau.  For more information, please contact the department office. Scholarships and Awards Available

Dr. Bob Wilson Scholarship - The Department of History and Geography awards the Bob Wilson Scholarship each year to a rising junior history major (or minor) with a GPA of  3.5 or higher who is judged by the Department to best represent the spirit of  engagement in the pursuit of history with preference given to a student focused on local or public history, wherever they may find it.  The award honors Prof. Bob Wilson, much beloved and valued by students, colleagues and the community for his scholarly passion for the history of Milledgeville, Georgia, for his wit and wisdom, and for his unrivaled collegiality.
