A Long History of Excellence
The Georgia College baseball team has enjoyed a long history of excellence. The program was started in 1969 and has since grown into a national contender.

The Bobcats are ranked among the national elite nearly every year and have made seven trips to the NCAA Tournament (1995, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2007) including the College World Series in 1995 where the team finished as the National Runner-Up.

The GCSU baseball team enjoyed its early success while part of the NAIA, making two trips to the World Series in 1984 and 1985 under legendary head coach John Kurtz, for whom the baseball field is now named. Kurtz skippered the GCSU program for 18 years from 1976 to 1993, amassing 577 wins. The success continued under Steve Mrowka from 1994-2004 where the team enjoyed more national success in the NCAA. After Mrowka came Chris Calciano as the Bobcats won their first two Peach Belt Conference Championships in 2006 and 2007. Tom Carty took over the head coaching reigns for the 2008 season with a depth of experience and a solid foundation as assistant for the previous two seasons.

Kurtz Field is a fan-friendly environment allowing fans to enjoy the game from seat-back chairs behind home plate, or a picnic style atmosphere on the third base hill.
