#9 Softball Grabs 30th Win with Clark Atlanta Sweep, 5-1, 5-2

ATLANTA – Now totaling 30 wins on the season, the No. 9 Georgia College & State University softball squad (30-6) picked up a pair of non-conference victories today (March 27) at Clark Atlanta University (16-21) 5-1 and 5-2.
In game one, junior ace
Mandy Chandler (Covington, Ga.) tossed all seven innings, fanning 11 while allowing just one run, improving to 16-3. Classmate
Tonya Medders (Bascom, Fla.) powered the offense with a 4-for-4 effort, driving in a pair.
Medders (12-3) took to the circle for the 5-2 game two. She threw all seven innings, fanning six and allowing a pair to score.
The hitting stars came aplenty in game two, as
Sherquita Bostick (Florence, S.C.) was 2-for-4 with a home run, her fifth. Junior
Kori Pickowitz (Keller, Texas) also smacked a round-tripper among her 2-for-3 effort.
Maggie Davis (Dacula, Ga.) was 3-for-3 and Medders added a 2-for-3 game.
The 30 wins marks the seventh time the Lady Bobcats have reached that win total in school history. The most recent 30-win squad was last year’s team that finished 35-21. The top wins total in Georgia College history is 45, set in 2006. Of the seven 30-win seasons, three have come in the four seasons under head coach
Ginger Chaffinch.
The Lady Bobcats are back in action Saturday, March 29 at 1 p.m., traveling to Wingate University (21-11) for a doubleheader. The Bulldogs hosted Lenoir-Rhyne College today.
