Tuesday, March 25, 2008

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Sophomore Niclas Johansson (Skanor, Sweden) of the No. 10 Georgia College & State University golf team was named Georgia College & State University Athlete of the Week, the sports information office announced today (March 25). The award honors the top performance by a Bobcat during the week ending March 23. This is the first honor for both Johansson and the golf team.

Johansson fired a four-under par 212 to finish tied for first at the 17-team Southeastern Intercollegiate in Valdosta, Ga. He fired 69-71-72 as GCSU finished second as a team, just one stroke behind Florida Southern College. Johansson entered a three-way playoff which was won with an eagle on the second hole by FSC's Judson Eustaquio. The result was Johansson's first top-five finish of the season and moved him into fourth in the PBC with a 72.7 stroke average. GCSU leads the PBC with a 295 team average.

The Bobcats are back in action April 7-8 at the Emerald Coast Collegiate in Pensacola, Fla. hosted by West Florida.
