MARTINEZ, Ga. – Junior Erick Siqueira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) of the No. 22 Georgia College & State University men’s tennis team was named Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Week, the league office announced today (March 24). The honor is the first of the season for Siqueira and the Bobcats.
Siqueira made the most of his two matches this week, picking up victories to help the No. 22 Bobcats to a 7-2 upset of No. 15 Francis Marion University. He took three sets to beat No. 20 Franklyn Emmanuel 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 and teamed with Francis Yoshimoto (Sao Paulo, Brazil) for an 8-5 upset of the No. 11 doubles squad of Emmanuel and Oshada Wijemanne.
The award is the third weekly conference honor for Siqueira in his career, having taken two in 2007. Georgia College men’s tennis has won four of these awards all-time.
Siqueira and the rest of the Bobcats are back in action Thursday, March 27 at 11:30 a.m. when they travel to Orlando for a neutral-site battle with Merrimack College.
