A Rare & Historic Opportunity
Given to Georgia College by the Curator of the United States Navy, a Navy Bell once rung to celebrate Georgia College Athletics has been nearly forgotten and remains in storage. Acquired in 1989 with the assistance of Senator Sam Nunn and Dr. Kurt Hoffman, the Centennial Bell can once again ring loud as a proud hallmark of Georgia College athletics. Today, you an become a part of the effort to return the bell to its rightful home, in a bell tower outside of the Centennial Center. Donate now, and leave your lasting legacy in the form of a brick or plaque on this new, historic structure.
Become a Part of a Legacy
Dear Bell Tower Supporter,
Georgia College has a unique and colorful history. We have gone through numerous name changes, re-defined our mission, and gained many new traditions over the years. Georgia College is an exciting place to be a student, and a great place to call your alma mater. I look forward to my own graduation this year as my four years here come to a close. However, as I look back on the things I have done and the changes I have helped make at Georgia College I still look for opportunities to leave a lasting mark.
At the beginning of my sophomore year, I began to take on additional responsibilities within the Student Government and as such became an advocate for increased campus ethos. The University administration embraced this initiative and helped move our initiatives along. One project that caught my eye is the Centennial Bell Tower. Given to Georgia College by the United States Navy and Congressional Support, this Navy bell was designed to ring during games at the Centennial Center to cheer on our sports teams. However, this tradition has been nearly forgotten and the bell remains in storage.
Today, Georgia College needs your help! Let's return the bell to its rightful home, as originally intended, in a new Centennial Bell Tower outside the Centennial Center – home to Georgia College Athletics. This project is completely sponsor-driven and in order to fund the new bell tower, we are allowing the purchase of engraved bricks to be placed under the bell itself for $250, and plaques to be placed on the foundation of the tower for $1,000.
I encourage you to seriously consider a contribution to help restore this tradition. If you would like additional information feel free give me a call at 478-445-2795 or if you are ready to reserve your brick or plaque now click here.
Together we can restore this wonderful Georgia College tradition and ensure the legacy lives on.
