Student Resource Center General Information
It is your responsibility to know academic policies and procedures, academic calendar deadlines, and degree program requirements including pre-requisites for courses. Your academic advisor will assist you but will not make decisions for you.
Academic Standing
Your academic standing (Good Standing, Warning, Probation, and Dismissal) is based on your institutional GPA. That is the GPA on courses you have taken only at Georgia College. You cannot repeat a course at another institution and improve your GPA.
Regents' Tests
The Georgia Board of Regents now expects your Regents' reading and writing requirements to be satisfied by your second semester of classes (30 hours). Failure to take care of this will result in not being able to register for classes.
First Year Academic Seminar
If you come to GC with less than 29 hours of course credit, a first year academic seminar is required; however, if you are changing your major, and you have already had a first year academic seminar in another major, it will satisfy our requirement.
120 Hour Rule
The Georgia Board of Regents requires that all of the 120 hours required for graduation be academic in nature. Therefore, purely physical classes such as jogging, tennis, walking, etc. will not count towards your 120 hours. Academic Seminars do not count either.
Incomplete Policy
In the spring 2010, the University Senate passed a policy on incomplete grades effective fall 2010: An incomplete grade may only be assigned if:
- The student was doing satisfactory (passing) work at the time of the request, and
- The student was unable to meet the full requirements of the course due to non-academic reasons beyond the student's control.
The process of assigning an incomplete grade will include the following:- normally the student requests the incomplete grade from the instructor before the completion of the course, and
- the student and the instructor complete an incomplete grade agreement form approved by the instructor and the instructor's department chair and file the form with the Registrar's office.
Normal hours for the College of Business Advising Center (232 Lanier Hall) are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
