Mission
The Mission of the Plant Operations &
Facilities Planning Department is to design,
construct, and efficiently operate
accessible, well-maintained facilities and
infrastructure that support existing and
future activities and facilitate growth of
the University by providing a safe, healthy,
comfortable, clean, and attractive
environment for learning, living, and
working.
The Department
The Plant Operations & Facilities Planning
Department is a service oriented organization
that provides a wide range of services for
the campus community, including facility
design and construction, grounds care,

building maintenance and repair, utility
generation and distribution, preventive
maintenance, custodial services, and vehicle
maintenance.

The office of Plant Operations & Facilities
Planning, located in Miller Court, performs
the administrative duties of budget, work
order control, scheduling, clerical,
personnel functions, and other duties
required for the employees of the department.
The office also processes university fuel
credit card billings, work order processing,
and radio dispatch emergency repair.
Automotive
The Automotive Shop maintains all university
owned vehicles and equipment. These include
all vehicles operated by Plant Operations &
Facilities Planning, Public Safety, Media
Services, Administrative Services, the
President’s Office, Grounds, and Campus
Shuttle. These services are provided through
a Work Order Request form.

for all academic and administrative
buildings, athletic facilities, and residence
halls. During three work shifts, they clean
over 1,948,204 square feet in 52 buildings
every day. They also perform minor
maintenance items such as replacement of
light bulbs and tubes. They often assist the
Moving Crew during setup and take down for
major special events. These services are
provided through routine maintenance work
orders and radio dispatch emergency service
calls.
Facilities Planning
The office of Facilities Planning is staffed
with estimators and drafters under the
supervision of the Facilities Planner. This
office performs engineering services for
space planning, new construction, renovation
work, parking, and landscaping along with ADA
accessibility compliance and interior and
exterior building signage. Master records of
buildings and utilities are maintained in
this office. The office coordinates and
inspects new construction and renovation
projects. Plans for major projects provided
by outside architects and engineers are
reviewed by this office. They also prepare
estimates, plans, and specifications for
construction projects and building
alterations. Their services are requested
through appointment or the Project Request
and Approval form (blue form).
Grounds
The Grounds Crew maintains approximately 147
of the University’s 700 acres. Their function
is to maintain and beautify the grounds in
order to enhance the overall visual impact of
the campus. This type of maintenance includes
mowing, edging, pruning, and the removal of
trash and debris. The Grounds Crew is
responsible for monitoring proper storm

and installs upgraded landscape plans that
reduce maintenance, while adding
aesthetically pleasing green spaces.
