If you're like most Liberal Arts majors, you're wondering what you can do with your degree, especially in the current economy.  The Career Center has created this conference just for you so that you can hear first hand from employers and graduate school recruiters on how to best prepare for the transition from college to career.  

 
Conference Schedule

9  – 11:30 a.m.
Practice Interviews with GEICO, 232 Lanier Hall
Before their session at 2 p.m.,  GEICO will conduct practice interviews to the first 5 students who register through the campus interview schedule on Career Connection.  Interviews are 30 minutes long and will provide immediate feedback on your interviewing skills.  Sign up on Career Connection under On Campus Interviews.

10 – 10:50 a.m.
Resume Writing for Arts & Sciences Majors, A&S 242 -
Register

If you're applying to full-time jobs or graduate assistantships, you'll definitely need a resume or curriculum vitae.  This session will give you everything you need to make sure your resume gets the attention it deserves. 

Financial Planning 101, A&S 243 - Register

Now more than ever, new graduates need to be financially savvy to survive uncertain economic times.  Learn how to create a monthly budget, manage debt, and save for short-term and long-term financial needs.  After this session, you'll know exactly how to stretch your paycheck and save for the future.

Using Your Liberal Arts Degree to Get a Job, A&S 240

You've heard that employers want liberal arts majors, and our corporate recruiters will tell you that it is true.  We will review the types of transferable skills you have that their company and many others need, no matter what major you have studied in college.  You'll also learn how to use your strong communication and analytical skills as a way to stand out among other candidates during the job search.

A panel of medical professionals will discuss their experience in graduate school and in the field practicing medicine. 

Industry Interview Tips, A&S 242 - Register
Speaker:  Madie Martin, GEICO
GEICO is one of the biggest employers of new college graduates so they interview thousands of people each year.  No matter what profession or graduate program you plan to go into, an interview will most likely be part of the process and you need to know what to expect and what is expected of you.
