Black Student Alliance

The Black Student Alliance (BSA) is a registered student organization with a purpose of bringing students together. With an emphasis on African American students, the objective of BSA is to provide activities that will enhance the student's personal and social development, cultural enrichment and understanding of the African American experience in correlation with other cultures, and enhance the overall educational experience at Georgia College by the following objectives:

Social Development Objectives:

  • Supporting students as they matriculate into GC by providing a sense of acceptance and belonging
  • Assist minority students in connecting with the GC campus community of students, faculty, and staff to foster a shared network of resources and support

Cultural Objectives:

  • Assist students in learning and preserving the African American/Black Heritage through inviting speakers, field trips, and cultural enrichment programs/presentations
  • Increasing the understanding and knowledge base of the entire university community concerning the African American culture and other diverse populations through programs, performances, lectures, and discussions.

Academic Support/Retention Objectives:

  • Providing access to academic success, scholarship, and career information to minority students
  • Collaborating with other student organizations and the University as a whole to ensure academic support and success
  • Providing role models for all first year minority students through collaboration with minority retention programs sponsored through the Cultural Center
    • S.O.A.R. - Student Oriented Activities and Resources- a minority advisement and mentor program through participating minority upperclassmen students and GC Faculty/Staff
    • A.A.M.I - African American Male Initiative- a retention program focused on building upon the academic, social, and leadership development of African American male students

Community Service Objectives:

  • Supporting the Boys & Girls Club of Milledgeville & Baldwin County by co-sponsoring youth enrichment programs
  • Providing positive outlets and volunteer opportunities for members to organize activities and participate as positive role modes to children in the Boys & Girls Club of Milledgeville
  • Collaborate with other community service projects and nonprofit organizations to support causes such as AIDS Awareness & Prevention, Cancer Awareness/Fundraising (Relay for Life), Disability Awareness, Poverty & Hunger (Milledgeville Food Pantry), etc.... in order to enhance the status of minorities and other citizens within our campus and community.
