Personal Training

Wellness Programs offers Personal Training services to Georgia College students, faculty and staff.  This service is made possible through collaboration with the Exercise Science practicum. Personal training is a component of the required practicum hours for which the students receive academic credit. Although some students hold Personal Training certifications, most do not. Clients should understand the training is part of the educational experience for the practicum.

Available training packages:  (A) $60 for 12 weeks, minimum of 24 sessions and (B) $30 for 6 weeks, minimum of 12 sessions.  Packages include a Training Consultation, 2 Complete Fitness Assessments, and one-on-one training every session.  Clients must commit to two (2), 60 min. training sessions per week.  There is no additional cost for more than 2 hours/week if agreed upon by Trainer and Client. Please read the Personal Training Policies prior to submitting an application.

Employees - A Depot Membership is required in order to participate in the personal training program.  This is in addition to the personal training fee.  Please view the Membership information before submitting an application.

Personal Training fees are deposited into a university account and used to help support the Exercise Science students.

Due to the high volume of requests each semester, applicants cannot be guaranteed to be matched with a trainer. Applications are accepted and reviewed for client/trainer availability on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Applications are currently being accepted for Fall Semester 2011.

Wellness Coaching A Wellcoaches LogoCertified Wellness Coach (CWC) is available at the Wellness Depot for students, faculty, and staff.

Coaching is a close relationship and partnership with a coach, providing the structure, accountability, expertise, and inspiration to enable an individual to learn, grow, and develop beyond what he or she can do alone. Coaching is distinct from counseling or therapy. Traditionally, a psychologist or therapist works to understand how the past is affecting and influencing the present to help clients heal emotional wounds or resolve problems.  A coach works in the present, helping the client define and create a new future.  Your wellness coach will enable change by bringing out your personal best and focusing on your individual needs, values, and vision.

Coaching sessions are scheduled weekly (or as needed), by telephone or face-to-face, for three months or longer to help clients clarify where they want to go, and initiate the steps to get there.

The process of wellness coaching progresses through several stages:

  1. You provide background information through a well-being assessment so that you and your coach are well-informed on the key issues, including medical considerations.
  2. During the first 60-90 minute coaching session, you identify your priorities and develop a personal wellness plan including a vision, three month goals, and the first steps.
  3. In subsequent 30-40 minute coaching sessions, each week, month, or quarter, you and your coach review the progress toward your vision and goals, explore and resolve the most pressing issues, learn something new, and then agree on a set of goals for the following week.  You will enjoy plenty of insight along the way.
  4. By the end of three months, you can expect to reach more than 70% of your three-month goals and feel energized and confident to embark on new areas with or without your coach.

To schedule your first coaching session, please contact Amy Whatley by email, amy.whatley@gcsu.edu, or by phone, 478-445-7500.
