Accessing Disability Services

To access services through Disability Services please follow the following steps. If you have any questions, please contact Disability Services. You can call our office at 478-445-5931 or stop by our office at 130 Lanier Hall.

1. Complete a Request for Services Form
Once completed please return to our office to be further processed by mailing it to the address below, faxing to 478-445-1959, or delivering it to us in person.

Our mailing address is:

Georgia College
Disability Services
231 West Hancock Street
Campus Box 123
Milledgeville, GA 31061

2. Provide Disability Documentation
You should also provide us with documentation from an appropriate licensed professional that follows the Georgia College Documentation Guidelines and documents your impairment(s). If documentation of disability does not exist, we can assist with seeking licensed professionals who can provide acceptable documentation.

Along with the documentation you can also include any records of accommodations/services provided to you in previous academic settings (e.g. IEP, SOP, Section 504 Plans, or letters from other collegiate institutions).

3. Schedule a registration meeting
This will give you an opportunity to learn about our services as well as discuss your disability, how it may affect you in an academic environment, and request appropriate accommodations.

We will review all documentation that you have submitted and accommodations being requested. After review, we will contact you to update you in regards to your status.

If the documentation does not meet criteria, then we will let you know the areas where your documentation is lacking pertinent information. It is your responsibility to contact the medical professional, obtain the information and then make sure we receive any additional information to add to the original documentation submitted.

If the documentation does meet criteria, then we will discuss with you any accommodation(s) for which you qualify, as well as other services that may be available to you.

If you are granted academic accommodations, you will request and we will prepare an Accommodation Letter for you to come by Disability Services to pick up. Once you have received this letter, you should make appointments with all of your professors to give them the letter from our office and discuss implementation of your accommodation(s).
