History of the Field-Based Cohort Programs
The Field-Based Cohort Programs at Georgia College have been earning state and national recognitions. In 2008 the programs earned the National Wisniewski Award for making "singularly significant contributions to the theory and practice of teacher education." In 2009 and 2010 the programs were finalists for the Christa McAuliffe Excellence in Teaching Award. Also, the Early Childhood and Middle Grades (ECMG) Department was selected as the recipient of the 2011 Regents' Teaching Excellence Award for Departments and Programs for the State of Georgia regents' institutions
Dr. Ed Wolpert was the second Dean of the John H. Lounsbury School of Education. He served in that position from 1983-1996. After a reception honoring the ECMG department in 2010, he wrote Field Based Cohorts: The Teacher Education Programs at Georgia College: The Beginning.
