Dr. J.W. Good Receives Award
Dr. J.W. Good, professor of Educational Leadership at Georgia College, was awarded the 2013 Georgia Excellence in Education Award from AdvancED, a global leader in advancing education. On receiving this recognition, Dr. Good said “I thank AdvancED for the overall vision and organization that has led not just this country but also the world in school improvement and accreditation. I am truly grateful for the opportunities I have had to learn, apply and teach school improvement concepts.”
Good’s involvement with AdvancED as a lead evaluator transfers directly to his work with students in the Educational Leadership program at GC. “Graduate students spend a lot of time in their residency work studying and documenting the capacity of their organizations so that they can identify the strengths and opportunities for improvement in their schools and districts,” stated Dr. Good. A major component to the Educational Leadership program is learning how to assess the capacity of an organization using AdvancED’s latest research-based standards.
Before joining the faculty at GC, Good worked in four school districts as a teacher, principal, central office administrator and superintendent. This year marks Dr. Good’s twelfth year at Georgia College. Dr. Good is the first faculty member from the John H. Lounsbury College of Education to receive this prestigious award.
