Specialist in Curriculum and Instruction Middle Grades Education Emphasis

Degree Requirements

 

Available at the Macon Campus but some coursework may be needed on the Milledgeville Campus  depending on the candidate's content area concentration or area or interest. 

The Specialist in Education in Curriculum and Instruction with an Emphasis in Middle Grades Education program provides advanced study for qualified master educators of young adolescents.  Middle Grades Specialist students experience an advanced, research-oriented, professional education core that focuses on Authentic Learning Communities and they are able to build upon and expand work and interests begun at the master's level – extending and strengthening their professional, pedagogical, and content knowledge.  The Specialist in Curriculum with an Emphasis in Middle Grades Education program prepares advanced practitioners to be Middle Level Architects of Change and dynamic leaders in their professional community.

Each candidate for the Specialist in Education degree is assigned a graduate advisor in Middle Grades Education who serves as a mentor and assists the candidate complete the Specialist in Education Program of Graduate Study and throughout the program.

It is important to note that this program is designed particularly for individuals who already hold or qualify for a level five (5) Georgia Teacher's certificate.

Admission Requirements

  1. Graduate Admissions Application Form
  2. Two professional recommendations (pdf)
  3. Official copies of all transcripts
  4. Passing scores on the Graduate Writing Assessment
  5. Minimal GPA of 3.25
  6. Verification of immunization
  7. Verification of Georgia T5 certification
  8. Two years of teaching experience on clear/renewable certification
