Checklist for Application to the Master of Arts in Teaching--Secondary Education Program

  1. ___ Hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution with a major in the exact field in which you plan to teach OR have a minimum of 5 undergraduate courses in the  field you plan to teach (see below) AND have taken the appropriate GACE Content  Assessment.

    If you do not have a bachelor's degree in the area you plan to teach, please check which of the following describes your situation. If none of the following describe your situation, you will need special permission to be admitted to the MAT program.

  2. ___  Art – I have taken at least five undergraduate art courses including drawing and painting.

  3. ___  Biology – I have taken at least five biology courses.

  4. ___  Business – I have taken at least 3 business courses and 2 computer courses.

  5. ___  Chemistry – I have taken at least five chemistry courses.

  6. ___  English – I have taken American literature and either British literature or World literature along with 3 other English courses with the ENG or ENGL prefix.

  7. ___  French or Spanish – I have taken at least five undergraduate courses, three of which were at the 3000 level or above.

  8. ___  Health – I have taken at least five undergraduate health courses.

  9. ___  History - I have taken World history I and II and U.S. History I and II along with at least one 3000 level or above history course.

  10. ___  Math - I have taken Calculus I, II, and III along with two other undergraduate math courses.

  11. ___  Physics - I have taken at least five physics courses.

  12. ___  Political Science – I have taken at least five political science courses.

  13. ___  Have a minimum 2.5 undergraduate GPA for all undergraduate coursework attempted.

  14. ___  Pass the on-site Writing Assessment

  15. ___  Submit two professional recommendations (pdf) using the School of Education format

  16. ___ Satisfy GACE Basic Assessment requirements either through exempting the test or taking and passing it. (The GACE Basic Assessment may be exempted with an SAT score of 1000 or a GRE score of 1030 or an ACT score of 43)

  17. ___ Satisfy GACE Content Assessment requirements either through taking the test (we look for scores that are passing or close to passing if you have a degree in your content area) or if you do not have a degree in your content area you must pass the test.

  18. ___  Submit a completed application for graduate study with all supporting documents and a $35 (online) or $40 (paper) nonrefundable application fee (if you are not a Georgia College alumnus) to the Office of Enrollment Service

  19. ___  Deadline for all material to be submitted is Feb 14, 2009.
