Reading Endorsement—Non-Degree Program

Overview
Endorsement programs at the graduate level are offered to teachers wishing to add areas of expertise to their current State of Georgia Teacher Certification. The Reading Endorsement Program is designed for any P-12 teacher or supplemental reading teacher who is interested in learning how to better meet the needs of the students in his/her classroom. The program addresses the competencies required by the Professional Standards Commission's Georgia Reading Endorsement. It emphasizes classroom application while addressing the following three strands:

Understanding Readers and the Reading Process
Linking Literacy Assessment and Instruction
Instructional Strategies in the Content Areas across Pre-K-12

Application Procedures

  1. Submit a University Admissions Form including application fee, if applicable.
  2. Submit official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended (except GCSU)
  3. Submit proof of Certification

Teaching Distance Reading Model
The program allows students to register for the specific reading courses designed to meet the competencies established for the reading endorsement

  • The Reading Distance Learning Model is designed for educators who prefer an online course option.

  • It is also intended to reach out to educators who are not close to GCSU but would like to meet the requirements for the Reading Endorsement.

  • All three strands will be addressed in three web-based courses.

  • Students meet face-to-face two times during each semester.

Certification
Candidates seeking endorsements must be recommended by the certification officer at GCSU to the Professional Standards Commission.

Note from Professional Standards Commission: To be eligible for the Reading Endorsement the educator must hold a Clear Renewable Teaching, Service or Leadership Certificate.
