Graduate Writing Assessment

The John H. Lounsbury School of Education graduate applicants must pass the on-site writing assessment as part of the admissions process. Students who do not meet minimum requirements on the School of Education writing assessment will not be admitted to the graduate program.  Students not meeting the minimum requirement may retake the assessment.

Scores will be sent by email approximately 4-5 weeks after the test date.

Day of the Assessment
The Graduate Admission Writing Assessment will be given from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.  Applicants should arrive at 8:30 a.m. for check-in and bring official picture identification. Applicants may bring a dictionary and/or a thesaurus; however, neither will be provided.  Food, drink, phones, or other electronic devices are not allowed in the testing rooms.

Description of the Assessment
Applicants will be given a short research document to read then they will write an essay concerning the issue addressed in the research piece. They will be asked to integrate the information in the piece with prior experiences and current beliefs. The assessment will be based upon the quality (not quantity) of written expression along with the analysis and synthesis of ideas.  Evaluation will be blind and by multiple readers.
