Holiday Decorations

Guidelines for Holiday Decorations

During the holiday season we get many questions regarding the use of holiday decorations on campus. The following guidelines should be used by faculty, staff and students to ensure that they stay safe while decorating and enjoying the holiday season, but do not violate good safety practices or fire codes.  The State’s minimum fire safety code requirements regarding decorations in public buildings can be found in subsection 10.3.5 of the Life Safety Code, NFPA 101, 2000 edition, and states the following:

“furnishings or decorations of an explosive or highly flammable character shall not be used.”
