Dr. Bonnie Von Hoff

Lecturer in Music

Dr. Bonnie Von Hoff joined the music faculty of Georgia College in the Fall of 2013. She teaches Applied Voice and Diction for Singers. She earned her Doctor of Arts with a major in Vocal Performance and a secondary in Music Education from Ball State University. While a graduate assistant in the Voice Department at Ball State, Dr. Von Hoff was a graduate assistant in Voice and Diction and completed an internship in Vocal Pedagogy. Dr. Von Hoff holds a Certificate of Performance from Northwestern University, a Master of Music degree from Manhattan School of Music, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Northern Colorado. Her principal teachers include Mignon Dunn.

Her primary areas of research are vocal health and repertoire. Her article, “Repertoire for the Young Dramatic Mezzo-Soprano,” was published in the September 2015 edition of The Opera Journal (National Opera Association). She has given poster presentations on her dissertation, “Vocal Health and Repertoire for the Dramatic Mezzo-Soprano: A Suggested Course of Study” at The National NATS conference in Chicago Illinois, The National Opera Association convention in Greensboro North Carolina, The National College Music Society conference in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and the International Congress of Voice Teachers in Brisbane, Australia.

In addition to solo recitals, Dr. Von Hoff has appeared as the mezzo-soprano soloist in Alto Rhapsody with the St. Alban’s Festival Choral Society and Symphonia in Staten Island, New York, Verdi’s Requiem with the Denver Opera Company, and Handel’s Messiah with Symphony of the Lakes in Winona Lake, Indiana. As a young artist, Dr. Von Hoff was also featured in programs at the International Vocal Arts Institute in Chiari, Italy, Brevard Music Center in North Carolina, Amato Opera, Northwestern University’s Opera Studio, and Manhattan School of Music’s Opera Studio. In these programs, she performed such roles as Dame Quickly in Falstaff, Zita in Gianni Schicchi, The Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas, and Rebecca Nurse in The Crucible. Dr. Von Hoff has participated in master classes given by Janet Bookspan, Charles Reicker, and Niel Rosenshien.
