NEH O'Connor Summer Institute
In her short story “Revelation,” O’Connor describes a vision of people whose “virtues were being burned away.” This summer “Reconsidering Flannery O’Connor” will challenge 22 college and university instructors and three graduate students to “burn away” their preconceptions about O’Connor’s world of misfits, artificials, street preachers, displaced persons, and self-satisfied souls. Begin exploring this summer institute by starting with our rationale for reconsidering Flannery O'Connor, and then learn how you can encounter O’Connor’s large and starting figures during four weeks of living and studying on O’Connor’s home turf as part of an institute funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
