Dr. Dorman's Charge to the Diversity Action Planning Committee
Please assemble a plan that is comprehensive but realistic. The emphasis of the plan should be ACTION. I am not interested in another plan that will sit on the shelf. The recommendations should include realistic goals and strategies some of which might be accomplished immediately or over a period of 3-5 years. I hope you will think about how to create ownership of the plan by everyone on campus and that you will consider communication strategies for letting the campus know about what you are doing.
I would hope that the plan would address changes in policy and practices that would enhance our efforts and would look at all sectors of the university including academic affairs, student affairs, human resources, faculty, staff, and community engagement.
I would expect that the plan would provide recommendations for:
- Recruitment and retention of diverse students
- Recruitment and retention of diverse faculty and staff
- Creation of an environment on campus and in the community that creates a welcoming environment for diverse students
In addition to addressing our concerns and weaknesses I hope you will also recognize the good things are already going on and find ways to provide encouragement to those that are moving forward with diversity efforts.
