Benefits of Joining Staff

 
Tuition Assistance Program
GC employees who wish to enroll in classes are allowed by the Board of Regents to have their tuition and fees waived through the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP). Any full-time regular employee of GC or other University System of Georgia institution who has been employed for at least six months can participate in this program.

Staff Excellence Award
Each semester, Staff Council sponsors the Staff Excellence Award, which is presented to a staff member who has done an outstanding job in his or her position. The award includes a public recognition ceremony, a monetary award from the Foundation, a monetary award from MidSouth Federal Credit Union, and other special community-sponsored gifts.

The ceremony also gives employees a chance to socialize and enjoy refreshments with colleagues and friends. Staff Council takes this opportunity to welcome and introduce new staff members. This gives new staff members a chance to get acquainted and helps them make the transition to the campus community.

Volunteering/Community Service
The university's GIVE Center serves as the volunteer/community service clearinghouse for staff, faculty, and students. Through the center, students, faculty, and staff become involved in campus wide, local community, national, and international volunteer efforts. The GIVE Center was named the 2002 Student Learning Program for Georgia.

Human Resources
The Human Resources office serves the GC community regarding workplace policies and practices, insurance benefits, retirement, payroll issues, staff training and development, and other human resource functions. On the Human Resources Web site, you will find general information about the services, current listings of our available job openings, and copies of frequently used forms.

Staff Development
Staff Council promotes professional development, technical, and educational opportunities that enhance and promote employee skills. Staff development funds are available for Continuing Education courses, workshops, and seminars.

Continuing Education
The Department of Continuing Education is proud to offer a variety of job-related continuing education courses at reduced fees, or in some instances, at no charge for university employees. For more information on any of the department's courses, please pick up a copy of the Continuing Education course catalog, stop by 100 Chappell Hall, or visit their Web site at http://continuingeducation.gcsu.edu/

Recreation/Exercise Facilities
Employees may use the recreational facilities at the Centennial Center, which includes an Olympic-sized swimming pool, indoor track, basketball courts, racquetball courts, a weight room, and tennis courts. The GC facilities at Lake Laurel include a rustic lodge, yurt, a biology field lab, picnic areas, nature trails, and a six-acre lake.

Athletics
Staff members are encouraged to support our intercollegiate athletic programs. GC fields teams in NCAA Division II-baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, cross country, golf, softball, tennis, and women's soccer. Employees are also welcome to join the Bobcat Club, which serves as the booster club for Bobcat sports. Contact the Athletic Department at (478) 445-6341 for more information.

Staff Council
GC was one of the founding universities to develop an organized council for staff employees. The main goals are to enhance the communications network for staff throughout the university and to promote professional development.
