(Application Available March 15, 2010)

Deadline: July 8, 2010

Students must be receiving aid and/or have a complete file for the academic year 2009-2010 to be considered for summer aid.
The Financial Aid Office is pleased to offer students an easy way to apply for aid for Summer 2010 electronically.  We recommend that you complete this application AFTER you register for Summer classes.  Keep in mind, in order to receive aid, including the HOPE Scholarship, for Summer, you must already have a complete financial aid file for 2009-2010. In order to access the application, students may follow these steps:

1.    Go to MyCats.
2.    Enter User Name and Password, then Login.
3.    Choose "Student" tab.
4.    Under "PAWS Link" on the left, choose "PAWS Main Menu".
5.    Select "Personal Information".
6.    Select "Answer A Survey". (This is  the Summer
       Financial Aid Application.)
7.    Choose "Financial Aid Application Summer 2010."
8.    When finished answering questions, select "Survey Complete".
By completing this survey, your Summer Financial Aid Application will automatically be sent to the Financial Aid Office.  You will be notified of your eligibility for financial aid via your eCats e-mail account.

  I.    General Eligibility Requirements

In general, to be considered for student financial aid you must:

  •   be a United States citizen or permanent resident of the United States and
  •   have been accepted for admission and classified as a degree-seeker at Georgia College & State University by the Office of Admission; or be currently enrolled in an approved degree seeking program, and
  •  be making progress toward the completion of your course of study according to the "Academic Requirements for Receiving Financial Aid", and
  • not be in default on any loan and have not borrowed in excess of loan limits under the Title IV programs at any institution, and
  •   not owe a refund on any grant received under the Title IV programs at any institution, and
  • certify registration with selective service if required, and
  • demonstrate financial need according to specific regulations

II.    Financial Aid Information

  •  Students should expect to fund their summer expenses from the Federal Stafford Loan Programs (Subsidized and/or Unsubsidized), and/or Federal PLUS program.  In addition, Federal Pell Grant (for those students who qualify) and a limited amount of Federal Work-Study (FWS) will be available.  Further, the HOPE Scholarship is available for students who qualify.
  • Eligibility for aid will be based on data and supporting documents submitted for the 2009-2010 award year. Summer Semester is the last term of the academic year.  Pell Grant award amounts are based on the 2009- 2010 FAFSA data.
  • Eligibility for Summer Aid is based on the anticipated number of semester hours the student expects to carry for the entire summer as reported on the Summer Application.  Initial payments for the Federal Loan Programs (Stafford and PLUS) and most Pell Grant awards  will NOT be made until the student is enrolled at least half-time (6 hours for undergraduate and 5 hours for graduate).  However, students may use the authorized Financial Aid to satisfy their bills at the Business Office and to charge purchases at the PawPrints Bookstore.
  •  New for Summer 2010:  Pell Grant recipients will qualify for these funds if they enroll at least half-time.  In the past, recipients that attended full-time for Fall and Spring did not receive Pell for Summer term.  This is a change that was made to benefit students that qualify for Pell who choose to enroll in the Summer term and accelerate their degree progress.
  •  The HOPE Book allowance will be applied to the students' accounts, which will allow them to make purchases at the beginning of each Summer Session at the GCSU PawPrints Bookstore.  The GCSU Business Office will disburse any remaining funds not utilized in the form of a check or via direct deposit (if elected from the Student Account Center) approximately 2 to 3 business days after the official drop/add period ends each Summer Session.  Students that have institutional charges other than matriculation and mandatory fees will have the HOPE book allowance credited to such costs unless the Business Office is instructed to do otherwise by the student.  Because of the multiple Summer Sessions, the advance HOPE Book checks will not be an available option.
  •    The Financial Aid Office reserves the right, on behalf of the college, to review and modify, including cancel, awards at any time because of changes in your academic status, academic program, resident status, enrollment status, etc.  All Financial Aid awards are contingent upon the availability of funds and the student's eligibility at the time of disbursement.
