Welcome to our website. The Department of Government and Sociology at Georgia College offers BA major and minor programs in Criminal Justice, Political Science and Sociology,  and a minor in anthropology. We also offers two graduate degrees, the Master of Public Administration and the Master of Science in Criminal Justice, with the MPA among the university’s larger programs. With 24 dedicated full-time faculty in six separate disciplines, the department prides itself on promoting a student-centered learning environment and intellectual excellence in faculty and students. Serving approximately 600 students, the department faculty have been recognized with outstanding teaching and service awards and are active scholars in their fields.

Students have opportunities to become involved in undergraduate research, public service projects and internships.  Students learn in and beyond the classroom through civic engagement, study abroad, work on archaeology sites, etc.  Several courses offer students opportunities to work with local citizens and public school students in citizenship-oriented projects. The department's faculty members participate in the Georgia College American Democracy Project.  Georgia College is one of 230 ADP universities in the United States. www.gcsu.edu/adp. The department is home to a vibrant Model UN team that competes in the National Model United Nations competition in Washington, DC each year.  In October 2010, the Georgia College team won more awards than any of the other almost 30 universities and colleges taking part in the competition.

On behalf of the department, its student, faculty and staff, I welcome you to our website. I hope your navigation through the site gives you a  valuable insight into who we are.
