Updated: 02-18-2014

Twenty-three Georgia College students, including numerous Department of Government and Sociology majors, were accompanied by Johnny Grant, Director of Community Engagement and Economic Development and Dr. Costas Spirou, Chair of the Department of Government and Sociology in their visit to the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta on February 5, 2014.  Mr. Grant, a former Georgia State Senator led the delegation and assisted students in better understanding the legislative process and making their experience at the Capitol a fulfilling one.

Participants had the opportunity to visit the House and Senate Galleries and watch legislative activity and meet with their legislator to discuss issues that were of interest to them.  Following lunch at the Coverdell Legislative Office Building, students attended various House and Senate committee meetings.  The group also engaged with several Georgia College alumni who work in and around the Capitol as well as with some of the current Georgia College students that are interning at the Capitol.

Students also met Governor and Mrs. Nathan Deal, Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle, Georgia House Representative E. Culver “Rusty” Kidd (145) and Georgia Senator Burt Jones (25).
