Recent Awards

Dr. Bailey received the 2005 Grady McWhiney Award of Merit presented by the Civil War Round Table of Dallas.  In addition, her book The Chessboard of War: Sherman and Hood in the Autumn Campaigns of 1864 won the Richard Barksdale Harwell Award by the Civil War Round Table of Atlanta for the best book on the Civil War published in 2000. This book was also a selection of The History Book Club.  Dr. Bailey was awarded the Excellence in Research and Publication Award at GCSU in 2001 and 2006-2007. 

Recent Projects

Dr. Bailey is the author or editor of eight books on the Civil War. She has written more than 150 book chapters, articles, and book reviews on the Civil War in the Western Theater and the Trans-Mississippi.

She is the editor of the Georgia Historical Quarterly, and general editor of "Great Campaigns of the Civil War" (University of Nebraska Press). She also edits the SCWH Newsletter, a quarterly publication of the Society of Civil War Historians.
