The James C. Bonner Master's Thesis Award is given yearly to the best Master's Thesis on any period or field relating to Georgia history written from August 2011 through August 2013. The award is co-sponsored by the Center for Georgia Studies at Georgia College and the Georgia Historical Society.

Applicants must submit three copies of an original thesis with a $10 entry fee by December 15, 2013 to: The Center for Georgia Studies, CBX 047, Georgia College & State University, Milledgeville, Georgia 31061.

The winner will be notified in late January and invited to give a presentation based on their Master's Thesis at Georgia College in the spring of 2014.

Dr. James C. Bonner (1904-1984) was Chair of the History Department at Georgia College from 1944 to 1969. Called a "teacher's teacher," Dr. Bonner was known for his influential scholarship in agricultural history of the South and particularly Georgia, as well as his interest in Georgia local history. His many publications include History of Georgia Agriculture, 1732-1860 (1964) and Milledgeville: Georgia's Antebellum Capital (1978).
