Flannery O'Connor

We believe that every Honors student should have at least a passing familiarity with Georgia College's most famous graduate to date, the writer Flannery O'Connor (1925-64).

Each year we organize a trip to O'Connor's family home, Andalusia, where she completed all of her major work during the last 13 years of her life. At Andalusia, we learn about O'Connor's life and writing, discuss one of her short stories with a leading O'Connor scholar and, weather permitting, explore the nature trails.

For those who wish to study O'Connor further, there are upper-level O'Connor classes in the English Department, the Flannery O'Connor Collection in the Library, the Flannery O'Connor Room in the Museum, and the occasional Flannery O'Connor Honors Colloquium.
