Summer 2018-19 The Village 1-3 Construction

What construction is planned?
Roof replacement, air conditioning unit replacement, work on grounds, possible appliance replacements, painting and cleaning.  This list is not comprehensive as several other smaller projects will also be completed through the summer.

Why is this construction happening?
The Village buildings 1-3 are all more than 15 years old and are in need of extensive, periodic maintenance and repairs.

What is the expected impact of the construction on residents of The Village 1-3?
Due the extensive nature of these repairs, University Housing anticipates loud noise, numerous work crews in the buildings each day and a general mess from construction and building materials.

Who will be impacted by this construction?
All current residents of The Village 1-3.

Will residents be allowed to stay in the buildings through the summer?
All residents MUST be moved out by June 29, 2018, however we strongly encourage residents to move out in mid-May after graduation.

Why are residents being asked to move out?
University Housing is focused on creating an environment that supports student success both inside and outside of the classroom.  During the time of construction, University Housing acknowledges that the environment will not meet our standards.

Will residents be able to stay on campus through the summer?
Residents of The Village 1-3 who wish to stay in University Housing through the summer will be able to relocate to single rooms in Sanford Hall through July 31, 2018.  For accepting this option, residents will be awarded a $400 credit to compensate for laundry, printing and all other inconveniences created by the relocation.  This credit is only available to students that relocate to Sanford Hall between May 12 and May 15, 2018.

What options do residents have for fall 2018 housing?
The Village 1-3 residents will be given priority housing room selection on January 23 and 24.  At this time they will select from any available space in Bell Hall, available spaces in Sanford Hall, single rooms on Central Campus and available apartments in The Village building 4.  Staff will be available at The Village Office from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23 and January 24 to assist residents in completing their housing applications and room selections.

Do students have the option of returning to The Village for 2018-19?
Yes, and as a bonus, students from The Village 1-3 will be able to sign an 11-month contract for the price of a 10-month contract.

Will residents have the option to be released from their current contract?
University Housing will be offering contract buyouts to all residents of The Village 1-3, with the earliest contract buyout date being Saturday, May 12, 2018.

How much money will a resident receive if they accept the contract buyout?
Buyout values are based on a daily rate of $24.57 (slight variance depending on room type).

For example, if a student moves out May 12, they will receive you will receive $1965.70.  If a student moves out May 31, they will receive $1474.20.

How do I communicate my intentions to stay on campus or accept the contract buyout?
