Teachers Retirement System of Georgia

The Teachers Retirement System plan is a defined benefit retirement plan for all regular employees of Georgia College, you must participate in the plan for at least ten years to become vested and reach the normal retirement age of 60 to receive a benefit. The defined benefit is equal to 2% of your highest 24 consecutive months' salary times the number of years of service. An early retirement provision allows you to retire with 25 years of creditable service. If you retire under this provision, your benefit will be permanently reduced by the lesser of one-twelfth of 7% for each month you are below age 60, or 7% for each year or fraction of a year by which you have less than 30 years of creditable service.

The University contributes 9.74% of your gross salary and you contribute 5.25% of your gross salary to TRS. You have vested rights after ten years.
