African Studies
The Minor in African Studies is designed to
introduce students to the study of African
society, experience, and cultures. Students
offering the minor must obtain a grade C or
better in each class. They can petition the
Dean to approve a course that focuses on
African issues but is not found on the list
of courses. However, no more than two courses
can be taken from any one discipline such as
English or Sociology. Students can also earn
credits towards the minor by attending a
study abroad program in Africa approved by

Black Studies
The Black Studies Minor Program seeks to
heighten awareness of the cultures,
experiences, and achievements of peoples of
African descent throughout the world in
general, and in Africa and the United States
in particular. It also seeks to give students
of African descent here at GCSU a sense of
pride in their heritage and knowledge of the
contribution of black people to world history
and culture. It aims to reinforce the
university's determination to foster

International
Studies
The International Studies Minor seeks to
increase students' knowledge of the nations,
cultures, peoples, and contemporary issues
confronting the world through an
interdisciplinary approach that includes
courses in the arts, business, education,
human sciences, humanities, natural sciences,
and social sciences. The International
Studies Minor develops in students a sense of
global responsibility and respect for
cultural diversity. Students who choose to
minor in International Studies choose focus
on a geographic region or disciplinary
approach to studying the world and its

Latin American
and Caribbean Studies
The Minor in Latin American and Caribbean
Studies and the accompanying Certificate in
Latin American and Caribbean Studies are
designed to introduce students to the study
of Latin American culture, history,
geography, language, politics, and society.
The joint minor/certificate provides an
interdisciplinary coherent unit of study that
certifies competency in a subject area
outside the traditional major. The
minor/certificate is not designed to compete
with existing programs, but rather to
complement them. This program offers an
opportunity for students to pursue an area of
specialization that may not be offered by
departmental curricula or may not be met in
conventional majors. Students interested in
the joint minor/certificate in Latin American
and Caribbean Studies take eighteen semester
hours from an approved list of courses and
achieve a grade of C or better in each class.
If a student knows of a course not found on
this list that focuses on Latin American and
Caribbean issues, he or she can petition the
Latin American and Caribbean Studies

Women's
Studies
The minor in Women's Studies provides for
intellectual exchange on philosophical and
pragmatic issues concerning women and
