“Study abroad will change the way you look at yourself, your community, and the broader world! In the global context of the 21st century, students who include first-hand experience with diverse cultures are better prepared to succeed as leaders in their chosen profession. All GCSU students are encouraged to study abroad, and our International Education Center staff can help you!”
– President Dorothy Leland, Georgia College & State University
Maymester and summer programs combine classroom instruction with an international context that offers a rich background for discussion and intercultural experiences. Georgia students are taught by Georgia faculty in locations all around the world in programs lasting from 3-5 weeks.
The semester and year exchange programs are fully immersive programs with direct enrollment in a foreign university. Possibilities exist in over 30 countries and in virtually every discipline. It is a great way to meet new diverse people, learn a language, or support your resume!
The International Education Center will help
you research your options and find the right
program for you. To guarantee space
availability, apply at least six months before
going abroad. In addition to submitting your
program application, you need to also register
for study abroad classes through GCSU, where
you will receive credit for the classes taken.
Our staff will assist with pre-departure
preparations and provide an orientation,
including program itinerary, course content,
cross-cultural communication skills and other
important information. All GCSU study abroad
participants are required to attend a
scheduled general orientation, as well as the
program-specific orientation planned by your
program director. The GCSU Student Code of
Conduct applies on all GCSU study abroad
programs.
The Financial Aid Office has information on

“Study abroad is an essential part of your
liberal arts education and will enable you to
step out of your narrow, one-dimensional
universe and learn to analyze world issues
from various points of view. Study abroad
provides the perfect opportunity to broaden
your vision and see things as people in other
cultures do.”
– Dr. Dwight Call,
Assistant Vice President for International
Education, GCSU
“To test the
borders of what you think you know about
yourself, you must find a place where you
leave behind the comforts of the known. To
study abroad means to find a place where your
strength and determination will be tested and
strained. The reward is when you surpass all
challenges and return home with a new and
truer image of yourself to share with your
family and friends.”
- Rebecca Miller, Kansai Gaidai
University, Japan, Academic Year 2005

“Study abroad
jump-started my undergraduate career. No
longer was I simply going to classes and
coming home, but I was continually immersed
in learning. The value of study abroad is
that it allows people to realize that there
are other cultures out there, different
values, different ways of looking at the
world.”
– Michael Rifenburg, St.
Petersburg, Russia, Summer 2003
“Every student
should take the opportunity to study abroad.
With the HOPE scholarship and financial aid
packages available, study abroad is possible
for every student. I believe it is the
perfect capstone of a college education.”
- Monica Rifenburg, mother of Michael
Rifenburg
