Can I use iTunes U to deliver class notes to my students?

Yes. In addition to traditional audio and video podcast file types you can also distribute Portable Document Format (PDF) files.

What is an Enhanced Podcast? How can I make my own?

The AAC audio file format allows podcasters to create "enhanced podcasts" which include embedded photos and Internet links that can be place at defined points throughout the podcast. These files are only compatible with iTunes and iPods. The simplest way to create enhanced podcasts is to use GarageBand, available on the Apple platform.

Why would an instructor put his/her course material in the "public" area of iTunes U?

Although we must take into account issues of copyright and intellectual property, iTunes U is a great way to bring attention to both GEORGIA COLLEGE and your work. It's up to each instructor as to whether they put up a full course, a sample lecture or promotional material for their course.

What are the advantages of podcasting over just uploading files to Georgia View Vista?

Once an individual subscribes to a podcast, new information is automatically downloaded. There is no need to constantly check for new items. Media files in podcasts can reside on any server, so there is no need to re-publish materials in a central location.

Does Apple insert any proprietary digital rights management schemes into content uploaded to iTunes U?

No. All content is DRM free.

What are the file formats, which can be uploaded to iTunes U?

Audio format: ACC and MP3
Video format: MPEG-4 and H.264
Note: For more information on file formats refer to the iTunes U User Guide.

What are the file extensions, which can be uploaded to iTunes U?

.aif, .aiff, .mp3, .wav, .m4a, .m4b, .mov, .mp4, .m4p, .aac, .m4v, .pdf
Note: .pdf files will not sync with iPods.
