Department of Kinesiology
Thank you for your interest in the Department of Kinesiology. The first degree awarded by Georgia College & State University following its inception in 1889 (known then as Georgia Normal and Industrial College) was a degree in Physical Education.
Since then, our department has continued the tradition by graduate and undergraduate programs in:
- athletic training
- community health and human services
- exercise science
- health promotion
- human performance
- outdoor education
- outdoor education administration
- physical education

Our Mission
The Department of Kinesiology is a learning community of caring, committed faculty, staff and students dedicated to excellence in teaching, scholarship and service within the liberal arts tradition. Our innovative curricula and services focus on the interactions among human movement, personal growth, and wellness. We work with diverse populations in a variety of settings in order to promote healthy lifestyles and societal interactions.
Our Innovative Programs of Study
The Department of Kinesiology offers innovative undergraduate and graduate programs of study. Students work with professors, fellow students, and practitioners in a variety of settings in order to empower others to lead healthy lifestyles and to function more effectively in society. We offer programs that balance traditional classroom and experiential learning opportunities and provide our students with the knowledge and skills to make positive lifestyle and career choices.
