The M.Ed. in Kinesiology: Health Promotion is appropriate for students from a variety of majors including, but not limited to Exercise Science, Athletic Training, Community Health, Health Promotion, or Nursing. The health promotion program is totally online and designed to assist students who wish to gain additional knowledge and skills as a health educator working in the areas of primary and secondary prevention of chronic and acute diseases and disorders and in the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
Health Promotion students will be prepared to:
1. Gather, organize, and analyze health promotion data;
2. Apply basic health science principles from behavioral and
social sciences, epidemiology, and prevention of chronic and
infectious diseases and injuries to health promotion initiatives;
3. Plan, including goals and objectives; implement; and evaluate
health promotion programs.
4. Communicate demographic, statistical, programmatic, and
scientific information to professional and lay audiences;
5. Utilize appropriate methods for interacting sensitively,
effectively, and professionally with persons from diverse cultural,
socioeconomic, educational, racial, ethnic backgrounds, and
persons of all ages and lifestyle preferences;
6. Collaborate with community partners to promote the health of
the population; establish and maintain linkages with key
stakeholders; develop, implement, and evaluate a community
health assessment;
7. Apply basic human relations skills to the management of
organizations, motivation of personnel, and resolution of conflicts
in health promotion settings;
8. Prepare proposals for funding from external sources and
manage budgetary and information systems.
