Resources and Services for Faculty
The Library and Instructional Technology Center (LITC) actively supports and promotes the mission of Georgia College by identifying, collecting, and providing access to information resources and instruction in the use of services. Our homepage (http://library.gcsu.edu) is the gateway to the various resources and services provided by the LITC to assist GC faculty in their teaching and research.
Research: Research service is available at the Research Center five days a week (Sun-Thurs). Research services are provided in person, by phone 478-445-0979 or via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. You can now chat or text with a librarian! Circulation Desk: For information about our borrowing policies, online book renewal, GIL Express, Interlibrary loan, or other services offered by our Circulation Desk, please visit our Access Services page, or call 478-445-4047.
*Faculty are encouraged to visit the Circulation Desk as soon as possible with their GC ID card to have their library account activated.
Reserves: Faculty members wishing to place materials on reserve at the Circulation Desk may consult the Library website for a reserve form here. For questions regarding reserves, contact the Circulation Desk at 478-445-4047 or the Reference Desk at 478-445-0979.

Interlibrary Loan: Interlibrary Loan allows faculty to obtain journal articles and other library resources unavailable locally or through another University System of Georgia institution. Call 478-445-0975 for more information.
Collection Development: Librarians and staff are assigned as liaisons to each academic department. Their role is to assist faculty in identifying the books, journals, databases, and other media to be purchased for the library collection in support of the courses they teach. Library Instruction: Library faculty provide formal classroom instruction at a variety of levels, from freshmen seminar to graduate. Faculty are encouraged to consult with one of our instruction librarians regarding their specific needs. Journal Locator: Our online Journal Locator can be used to search or browse for a specific periodical title, or to browse available titles by subject area. The Journal Locator informs the user of the availability and location of a periodical, whether it is online, in print or on microform.
GALILEO: Georgia Library Learning Online, otherwise known as GALILEO, is a collection of information resources, particularly article indexes and full-text databases. It provides access to thousands of periodicals and scholarly journals, encyclopedias, directories, digitized primary resources, government information and more. Please note that you will need a password to access GALILEO off-campus. Call the Reference Desk at 478-445-0979 for assistance.
Library Catalog: The GC Library Catalog (GIL) provides access to information resources located within the Library. It can be used to search for books, audio-visual materials, music scores and other resources.
GIL Universal Catalog: The GIL Universal Catalog provides access to the collective resources of all libraries of the University System of Georgia. You may use this catalog to locate books that are not available at the GC Library.
Museum: The GC Museum includes two galleries featuring changing exhibits on a variety of topics as well as the permanent Flannery O'Connor Room and and the Pat Peterson Museum Education Room, an electronically-equipped room available for classes, lectures and special events. Special Collections: Special Collections maintains the University Archives, the Paul D. Coverdell Papers, the Flannery O'Connor Collection, rare books and manuscript collections. The staff provides research assistance for all materials contained within the department and is responsible for providing quality outreach programs for the department. Computer Labs: The LITC offers 145 computers in three computer labs, a Macintosh classroom, and a multimedia lab. For additional information concerning the technology labs, call 478-445-4219.
Study Rooms: The LITC has 39 study rooms available on a first come, first served basis. Dry erase markers may be checked out at the Circulation Desk for use on the white boards in each room.
Copy Room: A GC Bobcat ID or a Visitor Card is required to pay for printing on the LITC photo and micro copiers. A VTS machine is located in the 2nd floor Copy Room for the convenience of adding value to your card. Faculty and Staff should refer to their department chairs for alternatives.
Library Express: Library Express electronically delivers eligible materials to GC faculty and staff. An email notifies you that your material is ready for viewing as a PDF for 30 days. In your Interlibrary loan - ILLiad account, click on "View Electronically Received Article." You may view, print, or download for 30 days.
