Description of course/assignment:
What is it you want or want your class to take from the Instruction class? Library instruction is most effective when the students have clear understanding of what they will be expected to do with the information they are presented with during class:

Sample Topics:
What are some sample topics we can use during the session? The more we tie the class in with an assignment the better students respond.

Specific Resources:
Are there specific library resources you would like covered?

Library Instruction Guidelines

  • Contact the Instruction Coordinator AT LEAST two weeks prior to the session to reserve the instruction room and dicuss your needs. Please have an alternative date in mind in case the time you request is unavailable.

  • Schedule the library instruction session for a time AFTER students have been given their assignment and will actually need to use the library. The timing of library instruction is CRUCIAL to student motivation and learning.

  • Library instruction sessions will generally not be scheduled during the first week of the semester.

  • No more than six classes will be scheduled per week, when at full staff. All librarians in the Reference & Instruction department have regular hours they must serve at the Reference Desk as well as Library and University commitments.

  • Classes or workshops dealing with library instruction are given first priority for use of the Electronic Classroom. The classroom is available for reservation to other campus groups for one time use within 1 week of the event (contact Coordinator of Instruction for reservation details). Campus groups wishing to reserve the room on a regular, ongoing basis must receive prior permission from the University Librarian.
