Library Instruction

Guidelines and Contacts

 bigbook
All Library Instruction is scheduled and coordinated by the Instruction Librarian.
However, all librarians in the Instruction & Reference Department participate in the program.

Library Instruction can be initially scheduled using the Library Instruction e-Form.

Or you can contact Gary Austin at the main library number (478) 445-4047 or via gary.austin@gcsu.edu.

  • Contact the Instruction Librarian AT LEAST two weeks prior to the session to reserve the instruction room and discuss your needs. Please have an alternative date in mind in case the time you request is unavailable.

  • Schedule the library instruction session for a time AFTER students have been given their assignment and will actually need to use the library. The timing of library instruction is CRUCIAL to student motivation and learning.

  • Library instruction sessions will generally not be scheduled during the first week of the semester.

  • No more than six classes will be scheduled per week, when at full staff. All librarians in the Reference & Instruction department have regular hours they must serve at the reference desk as well as library and university commitments.

  • Classes or workshops dealing with library instruction are given first priority for use of the Electronic Classroom. The classroom is available for reservation to other campus groups for one time use within one week of the event (contact Coordinator of Instruction for reservation details). Campus groups wishing to reserve the room on a regular, ongoing basis must receive prior permission from the University Librarian.

  • If you would like to reserve a room on campus please visit here.
