SUBSERIES 2a. Publishers/Periodicals
Box 1, Folders 1-38
Some of the most interesting reading in this collection comes from this series. Flisch was diligent in submitting her manuscripts over and over again to as many publishers and publications as possible in the hope of finding someone willing to break new ground in her representation of strong, capable women as the main characters of many of her works. The style and structure of her works were frequently praised while her choice of storyline or characters were not. Flisch responded to any criticism which did not require her to compromise her standards of characterization; she frequently resubmitted works she had rewritten to comply with suggestions of style or form. This series includes extensive correspondence from Thomas Crowell and Company, publishers of Flisch's second novel, Old Hurricane.
Folders 1-12 are in alphabetical order under the title of the submitted manuscript. When there is multiple correspondence from a source (Folders 13-38) the letters are located in alphabetical order under the name of the publisher or periodical source. The items in each file are in chronological order with the undated items being last in the folder.

They range in length from short stories to novellas and novels, and take a variety of forms including children's stories, romantic novels, and social histories. In some instances there is more than one draft of a particular work. Occasionally there are fragments which represent rewrites of portions of a work. This series is arranged in alphabetical order by the title of the work; lengthy works are then subdivided and filed in the order of consecutive pages, each file containing approximately twenty pages, divided at the nearest chapter heading. Page numbers given are those shown on the papers themselves; fragments or rewrites may give an appearance of redundancy. These fragments are filed in the order in which they originally appeared in the work. There is a synopsis of each work in the index card file, and they are cross referenced under subject matter and main characters.

SERIES 10. Additions - Robin O. Harris
Box 4, Folders 1-143, Box 4a & 4b
This series contains items obtained in the process of Harris' research on the life, career, and works of Flisch. It includes: educational documentation; correspondence between Harris and potential sources; transcripts of personal interviews with former students and associates of Flisch; and copies of articles, letters, and papers written by Flisch.
The largest portion of this series has been obtained through perusal of newspapers to which Flisch was reported to have contributed. A great many gaps remain, but to date over ten years of the daily issues Augusta Chronicle, and approximately eight years of the weekly issues of the Union Recorder (Milledgeville, Georgia) have been thoroughly searched for articles by or about Flisch. This is an ongoing project which will continue until as extensive a documentation as possible is completed.
This series also includes papers/articles written by Harris as a result of her research on Flisch. These works vary from published articles to conference presentations.
The series is divided into eight sections:

f. Organizations/Associations (Folders 28-36) includes all references pertaining to groups with which Flisch was affiliated during her lifetime.

Box 4, Folders 19-27
This section provides documentation of various aspects of Flisch's education and career. They are arranged in the approximate chronological order of her affiliation. The items in each individual folder are arranged in chronological order. "Stocks and Bonds" (Folder 25) represents one of the most intriguing gaps in the papers. Flisch frequently wrote her manuscripts on the backs of previously used paper. Several sheets of letterhead reading "Julia A. Flisch, Stocks and Bonds" were among the paper used. To date little other pertinent information has been located.
Richmond County Board of Education (Folder 27) represents another mystery. In an "off-the-record" interview with a former Flisch associate, it was stated that Flisch organized a county wide teachers strike in Augusta. To this date the only confirming information located was found on the back of manuscript pages: copies of two memos requesting meetings with the Board of Education and a Teachers' Committee, chaired by Flisch. These are included in this file.
