Biographical Note
William Ivy Hair was born 19 November 1930 in Monroe, Louisiana (Franklin Parish). His education included a B.A. (Journalism, 1952), an M.A. (Journalism, 1953), and a Ph.D. (History, 1962) from Louisiana State University. William Ivy Hair married Emily Karolyn Stevens in 1957. The Hair family includes two children, William Steven and Walter Ivy.
Dr. Hair died 6 August 1992.

Military service: Sergeant, United States Army, 1954-1956; honorable discharge
Teaching Experience: Graduate teaching assistant at LSU, 1956. Instructor, Florida State University, 1957-1963. Visiting Assistant Professor, LSU, Summer 1962. Assistant Professor, Florida State University, 1963-1969. Associate Professor, Florida State University, 1969-1973. Teaching Award: Outstanding Teacher, 1970-71, presented by the Student Advisory Committee of the FSU Department of History; Fuller E. Callaway Professor of Southern History, Georgia College, 1973-1992.
Administrative & Editorial Experience: Managing Editor of the Daily Reveille, LSU student newspaper, 1951-1952; feature writer for Baton Rouge Morning Advocate, 1950-1951; editor of the Pelican Press Messenger, official journal of the Louisiana Press Association, 1952-1954; chairman of the American history committee of the FSU History Department at various times, 1960-1970; member of the Faculty Senate at FSU at various times, 1969-1972; Associate Chairman for Undergraduate Affairs of the FSU History Department, and Director of the Tutorial Program of the FSU History Department, (no dates listed); College Archivist, Georgia College, 1987-1992.
