The Student Presentation Practice Room

About the Presentation Practice Room
The Presentation Practice Room gives you resources to assist you as you prepare for your group or solo presentation. The Russell Library recommends that you use the technology resources provided in the Presentation Practice Room. These resources have been set up to get you started quickly and provide you with the tools you need to conduct your practice session.

Presentation Practice Room Resources

Laptop and Projector
A laptop is provided for you to use in the Presentation Practice Room. This is already set up for you to begin using with the room's projector to practice your presentation.

You can use either a cloud storage service (OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive) or a USB flash drive to load your presentation onto the Practice Presentation Room’s computer. If you don’t have a flash drive, please see someone at the Library’s Print Station desk outside the room. They should have a flash drive available for you to use

Camera
The Practice Presentation Room is also set up with a camera that may be used to record your practice session. The camera should already be connected to the laptop and ready to use.

While using the camera, you’ll want to make sure you keep the room’s podium in the area marked on the floor. This will make sure you are inside the camera’s line of sight and are captured in the recording.

Recording Software
The software that works with the camera provided is already loaded on the laptop in the room. To get started recording your session, open the Microsoft LifeCam shortcut on the computer desktop.

Once you’ve opened the LifeCam software, you’ll be ready to record a session. To do this, you’ll need to click on the Record button (the third button to the right below the camera display). You will continue recording your session in the room until you click on the Record button again to stop recording.

Once you’re finished recording, you’ll now have a file of your recorded session, displayed below the control buttons in the LifeCam window. This file can be now be used to create a movie using Windows Live Movie Maker. If you need any assistance in creating your movie, please see someone at the Library's Print Station desk outside the room.
