All tours are offered on a first-come-first-serve basis. To assure you and your students a rewarding, educational experience, tour groups cannot exceed 30 students. The Mansion is, after all, is a house, and we want your students to be able to see and hear at all times. Each group of 30 or more will be divided in half.

Tours last approximately 50 minutes, so plan on a one-hour visit. Park buses in the designated area on South Clarke Street in front of the Mansion.

School Tours

Georgia's Old Governor's Mansion offers an opportunity for students to learn history through educational tours. Students gain a better understanding of Georgia history by comparing and contrasting present day experiences with those of the past.

Students on tour will:

  • Determine the ways people's lives have changed over time.
  • Explain how and why these changes occurred.
  • Identify famous Georgians and cite accomplishments.
  • Identify contributions made by various ethnic groups to the development of Georgia.
  • Trace the westward expansion of Georgia after the American Revolution.
  • Examine and analyze political, economic, social, demographic and cultural characteristics of antebellum Georgia and compare with other areas of the United States.
  • Analyze Georgia's role in the Civil War from secession through Reconstruction, and examine the war's impact on the state.

In order to prepare your students for their tour and to review the information afterwards, a teacher's study guide, pre-tour and post-tour activities are now available at our educational resources page. We strongly urge you to reinforce the students' learning experience with these activities.

The admission price for schools is $2 per person and that also applies to any teachers or chaperones who will also be attending.
