Mathematics
Analytical and Quantitative
The Department of Mathematics provides a principal component of liberal arts studies. The Department promotes analytical and quantitative thinking through courses offered in the Core Curriculum and in support of other programs.
Disciplinary Breadth
You will be challenged to think critically and carefully about your studies and to communicate ideas with precision and clarity. You will work in an environment which emphasizes the interdisciplinary nature and disciplinary breadth of mathematics.
Variety of Professions
These programs are designed to prepare you to enter a variety of professions requiring a substantial background in mathematics as well as further study at the graduate level in these disciplines. The Department encourages scholarly activity which creates a stimulating environment for both students and faculty and enriches teaching and learning.
Students who seek certification to teach mathematics at the secondary level will pursue a baccalaureate degree in mathematics and then the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) with a concentration in mathematics.
The department also offers a comprehensive program to prepare students for transfer into a degree program in engineering. Through an agreement between Georgia College and Georgia Institute of Technology, students may begin their college education at Georgia College in an exciting, challenging, creative and student-centered environment. The Dual Degree program comprises approximately three years of study at Georgia College and two years of study at Georgia Institute of Technology. After completing all program requirements, the student will be awarded two undergraduate degrees, a bachelor of science in engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and an undesignated bachelor of arts degree from GC.
