Rockin' in the Free World: Is Fair Voting Possible? Dr. Ryan Brown, Georgia College Mathematics Department

Abstract

In this talk we will survey some of the results in the theory of voting. We define what a voting system is and identify properties that are desirable in a "fair" voting system. We then present several examples of common voting systems and show how each of these systems fails to have all of the desirable properties. We conclude by presenting examples of actual breakdowns in real elections.
