Music Therapy Clinic Services

The Music Therapy Clinic at Georgia College offers music therapy services and adaptive lessons to children and adults with all types of abilities and talents. All clients must first have an assessment (offered free of charge!) to determine if music therapy is appropriate for them. A treatment plan including goals and objectives will be written according to the client’s and family’s needs. Data will be taken on each session and client/caregiver will receive monthly progress reports. Interventions will be designed to meet the individual needs and strengths of the client and/or group. Sessions are typically held in the MT Clinic located at the Milledgeville campus.

Individual Music Therapy Services

We provide an initial music therapy assessment free of charge and offer 30 minute sessions for $25 and $50 for hour sessions (50 minute session and 10 minutes of documentation). If outside 30 mile radius of clinic additional fee may apply. The assessment session, the completion of the New Client Information Packet (insert link to document) and any additional submitted paperwork will assist the state licensed/board certified music therapist recommend a focus for treatment including measurable music therapy goals and objectives. Monthly reports are submitted to the individual served or the individual’s caregiver in order to provide accurate documentation on progress.

Included in our New Client Information Packet (insert link again) you will find the new client information form and consent to treat/medical release. Please feel free to ask any questions!

Please note that this form and any insurance information (if not paying out of pocket) MUST be received prior to the initial assessment. It may be emailed to Katie.Whipple@gcsu.edu or mailed to our clinic. If they are not received prior to your first appointment, we ask that you arrive 15 minutes early in order to complete your paperwork. Download the form here: New Client Information Packet (insert again).

Group Music Therapy Services

We offer group music therapy services through one hour and half hour sessions depending upon the needs the group and organization. Rates vary depending upon the size of the group. Typically we contract with an organization to provide group music therapy sessions for a specific group of clients. A group assessment is completed to provide areas of focus for the groups. Documentation is completed by the music therapist according to the requirements of the organization.

Adaptive Lessons

We offer individual adaptive lessons in guitar, piano and basic introductory music lessons. Often times regular music lessons do not provide the best support, especially for individuals with learning disabilities or other challenges. Adaptive music lessons are designed around the strengths and needs of the individual. Music experiences are tailored towards improving specific music skills in an environment of patience and expertise using adaptive methods and creative planning. A music therapy assessment and treatment plan are still integrated into the lesson to provide opportunities for growth and change in areas of musical and non-musical skills. Rates for a half hour individual adaptive lesson are $25 and $50 for an hour session. Half hour lessons are great for beginners! Lessons are offered for adults and children of all ages and abilities!

Services for Facilities and Organizations

Often times organizations would like to, but are unable, to employ a full time music therapist. We offer contract services with organizations and facilities to provide music therapy to individuals or groups that they serve. Some organizations that we have had contracts with include Heartland Hospice and the Georgia Academy for the Blind. Our rates vary according to location and number of clients served. Contact us to find out more about our contract services!
