
Dr. Jennifer Flory has been Director of Choral Activities at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville since August 2005. She conducts the GCSU University Chorus, Women's Ensemble, and the auditioned Max Noah Singers and teaches choral and vocal music education and conducting courses. Since August 2006, Flory has served as Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church in Milledgeville. She also has performed as a mezzo-soprano soloist for such works as Handel's Messiah, Haydn's Paukenmesse, and Mendelssohn's Hymne.
Flory was compiler for the Spring 2008 and 2009 issues of the Research Memorandum Series, published by The American Choral Foundation which is administered by Chorus America; the first article details the choral-orchestral music and the latter article indexes the choral music of Emma Lou Diemer, who has also written two choral works for Flory and Georgia College. She has presented four day-long workshops for the Georgia RESA (Regional Educational Service Agency) organizations in Pelham and Lenox; the sessions covered such topics as Assessment in the Music Classroom, Music Technology, Conducting, Elementary Choral Techniques, Behavior Management, Lesson Planning, Fun Music Units, Sight-Reading Methods, and Music Advocacy. Flory has presented technology sessions for the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) and the North Carolina Music Educators Association and a Sight-Singing Session for GMEA. Flory also serves as an adjudicator for GMEA LGPE, GMEA Solo & Ensemble, and GISA Literary. She also conducted the GMEA District 11 High School Mixed Honor Choir in January 2008.
Flory holds both a Bachelors of Arts and a Bachelor of Music Education Degrees from Otterbein College; and both a Master of Music and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. Flory studied conducting with Stephen Coker, Earl Rivers, Mark Gibson, and Craig Johnson. She participated in master classes with Dale Warland, Harry Christophers, Stephen Darlington, John Leman, and Hilary Apfelstadt. Flory is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, Georgia Choral Directors Association, Music Educators National Conference, Georgia Music Educators Association, and The College Music Society.
