Maureen has over thirty years experience as a professional musician and teacher, performing with and for such diverse musicians as Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, YoYo Ma, Frederick Fennell, Frank Battisti, Victor Borge, Henri Mancini, Jacki Byard, the Irish Tenors, and Brian Wilson (the Beach Boys). She earned degrees from the New England Conservatory (Bachelor of Music Education, Bachelor of Music in Trombone and Euphonium Performance), Yale University (Master of Music) and the State University of New York at Stony Brook (Doctor of Musical Arts). She has performed as a soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Metropolitan (Boston) Wind Ensemble, has been a guest artist at Yale University and Williams College, and has recorded on Gunmar, Ladyslipper, and CRI Labels, among others. Her ensemble credits include the Opera Company of Boston, the Honolulu Symphony, and the Boston Philharmonic. She currently plays trombone with the New Hampshire Music Festival in the summer months. Dr. Horgan's teaching experience includes public school band and orchestra in Massachusetts and Hawaii, twenty years as Instructor of Trombone and Brass Chamber Music at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, Head Brass Coach of the Greater Boston Youth Symphonies, and adjunct courses at Wheelock College, Northeastern University, and SUNY Stony Brook. She taught one year as a Lecturer at Plymouth State University (NH) before coming to GCSU. Dr. Horgan served as Chair of the Pedagogy Committee for the International Trombone Association, on the Board of the Alumni Association of the New England Conservatory, and is currently on the Board of the International Women's Brass Conference. She is an active hiker, wilderness backpacker, biker, and swimmer.
